LEDUC JUNIOR ATHLETIC CLUB

The Leduc Junior Athletic Club (LJAC) was established in August 1983, in response to a need in the Leduc & area for the provision of support, leadership and financial assistance dedicated to the development of skills and abilities necessary for our developing hockey athletes to compete at progressively higher levels in the sport of hockey.  Over the years the LJAC has also provided support to other hockey teams, sport groups and associations in Leduc and area.

The Leduc Junior Athletic Club (LJAC) works in coordination and partnership with Leduc Minor Hockey Association (LMHA) in providing opportunities for hockey players participating at the U15 Elite, U16 Elite, and U18 Elite levels.  A formalized agreement between LJAC and LMHA defines the responsibilities of these two organizations in regards to the operation of these teams.  The LJAC is responsible for the Leduc Draw Zone of the Athlete Development Model, Hockey Alberta.

The Leduc Junior Athletic Club (LJAC Executive has 9 members) works primarily, though not exclusively, in the provision of financial support of the teams sponsored under the agreement between LJAC and the LMHA.  The LJAC received a Bingo license in August 1983 (no longer have bingos) and a casino license in 2013 (receive one casino every two years approx.). These have been a primary means of fundraising along with special events, hosting opportunities, etc. by LJAC.  All players (families) are responsible to share in the responsibility of volunteering at these financial support opportunities and the funds are utilized to support the three LJAC Teams.

Players are required to be registered with the Leduc Minor Hockey Association/Leduc Junior Athletic Club and thus must meet the obligations required by LMHA/LJAC in regard to fees and are governed by the Rules and Bylaws of LMHA/LJAC and Hockey Alberta.

Leduc Junior Athletic Club is proud of its history and has consistently fielded competitive teams in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL), Alberta Minor Midget League (AMMHL) and the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL).  Beyond the pure skill and competition of the hockey program, our players are encouraged to demonstrate excellence in teamwork, work ethic, respect, positive attitude, sportsmanship and community involvement.  The LJAC consistently is recognized as a respected organization whose teams display positive qualities on and off the ice.  RESPECT is truly an important value of the LJAC and Oil Kings Hockey Teams.  Parents & Families are also reminded to support the TEAM and be positive and respectful.

Beyond direct team funding, Leduc Junior Athletic Club feels it is important to promote and assist our players in their goals to further their personal development through advanced education.  Accordingly we have established a scholarship program to assist player alumni in funding post-secondary education.  For further information on this program please contact Scott Fraser, LJAC President and he would be pleased to explain this program in detail to you.  The U18 Elite program also has a scholarship program for seventeen year old U18 Elite players more information can be attained from the LJAC Team Director & U18 Elite website.
